Food for Families
From St. John’s to Vancouver, the One Nation Run has been running to raise awareness and support for programs helping Canadian children living in poverty.  On October 1 they will run their final 5km along with many Vancouver residents, including some who have benefited from the local programs the One Nation Run is supporting.

The core of the One Nation Run team consists of friends Bryce Dymond, Zaya Kuyena and Brittany Dickson, plus the thousands of Canadians they ran with  across the country. Over the course of five months the One Nation Run relay ran an average of more than 71 km a day.

‘We wanted to do something positive, instead of being overwhelmed by the poverty many Canadian children experience every day,’ says Bryce Dymond, ‘and we know that Canadians can solve these issues through generosity and creativity.  Together we are making a difference.’

People are invited to join them in their final leg which will take place on October 1; starting from Creekside Park and ending inside Stanley Park. They are also asking every Canadian to donate a toonie to support programs that help Canadian children and their families break the cycle of poverty.

Please visit http://onenationrun.ca to find out more.

Facts:

  • 1 in 10 Canadian children live below the poverty line
  • Money raised by the One Nation Run will go towards programs funded by World Vision that help Canadian children in urban and rural communities across the country
  • Inner Hope Youth Ministries is a Vancouver program being supported by the run
  • Make a difference – build awareness with people you know and support poverty-ending initiatives in your community
  • On October 1 run, jog or walk the final 5 km leg of the coast-to-coast One Nation Run, a run open to the public. Registration at 9:40a.m. at Creekside park beside Science World running at 10:00 a.m. to Stanley Park (finishing at 10:45a.m.)
  • Donate $2 to the One Nation Run as they run through Vancouver
  • Donations of $10 or more can be made online at onenationrun.ca

VIFF

VIFF Films for Youth and Families
http://www.viff.org/festival/films-schedule/by-series/youth/

Film has an incredible power to engage and enlighten audiences of all ages. As youth today are exposed to a plethora of media and?entertainment options, many backed by big-budget corporate interests, it is important to offer our youth another perspective. Opening young eyes to the world beyond Hollywood, independent cinema presents stories and cultures from around the globe.

VIFF has several programs for youth and families. These programs are outlined in the High School program [mid-week matinees for school groups] and Films for Youth [regular screenings] with student discounts.

Not all of our films are accessible to youth. As a non-profit film society, the majority of our films are not classified and thus, by law, audiences must be a “member” of our society and over 18 years of age. However, films that are suitable for a younger audience are classified (rated) by Consumer Protection BC to allow persons under 18 to attend (no membership required).
